Some people have defined FEAR as False Evidence Appearing Real. While this makes a lot of sense, I will not downplay any fear you are having. Fear is not false and to defeat it you must admit that you are afraid.

To overcome fear, you have to apply faith. In other words, Faith will neutralize Fear. No wonder the Bible tells us many times to fear not. It says so because the absence of faith is the presence of fear. Without faith, fear will flourish.

Since faith is so important, what is it?

Faith is one of those words that has been mischaracterized, misunderstood, and misused by many people. What people call faith is not faith in most cases.

Faith is not feelings and it is not a blind leap.
Faith is not anti-science and anti-evidence and anti-facts.
There is no such thing as faith in faith itself.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 KJ21

Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 ASV

Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses]. Hebrews 11:1 AMP

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 BRG

Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen. Hebrews 11:1 CSB

Faith is the reality of what we hope for, the proof of what we don’t see. Hebrews 11:1 CEB

Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see. Hebrews 11:1 CEV

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 AKJV

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.Hebrews 11:1 NIV

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.Hebrews 11:1 NKJV

Therefore faith is not dependent on your feelings or your circumstances. Your faith is only as good as the object of your faith. Just as each time a fraction is used it must be referred to something, faith must be based on something.

That is why to gain faith you must know the word of God.

The dangers of letting fear dominate you are real. Therefore you must do all to walk by faith and not in fear.

Consider what happened to the children of Israel here:

They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land. They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.”

Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”

But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.” Numbers 13:26-33

Let the word of God be your guide and your anchor and you will walk in victory. What is the word of God saying regarding your present situation? What is the word of God saying concerning what you are afraid of?
