“Blessed are those who give without remembering.
And blessed are those who take without forgetting.”
―Bernard Melzer
Social Services exists as a safety net and not something to depend on for life. In this chapter, you are being encouraged to resist the temptation of treating the Social Services as “freebies” that have no cost.
You should understand that it is more blessed to give than to receive, that taxpayers
foot the bill, and these services should not be abused.
This topic is being discussed because some people are abusing it. These are individuals who falsify their financial records to qualify for these services and those who try to convert their food benefits into cash.
The temptation to get sucked into the dependency mentality is huge, and you should resist it at all costs. You did not risk and abandon all to come to the United States of America for “freebies.”
